Diving World Championship 2013

Any excuse will do, I suppose, to post some pictures of my favorite teen hunk Tom Daley. Admittedly, a World Championships is a good excuse, wouldn't you agree? The 15th FINA World Championships this year is held in Barcelona, Spain. From five years ago, we already know that Barcelona probably has the most spectacular venue anywhere in the world. And then there are the boys in their sporting dress, if you can call a guy in skimpy speedos dressed. And it's all revealed on TV before the watershed.

The Barcelona 15th edition of the FINA World Championships so far have completely been dominated by China where the diving contests are concerned. Hauling in five of six possible gold medals during the first five days of competition, they only handed one to Germany. We will see if they will let go of another one in the remaining four events. The culmination will be, as usual, the men's final from the 10 m board with Tom Daley.

Tom Daley has kept expectations low for any medal in this event, though. His injury in April this year, he had torn his triceps, leaves him lagging behind in fitness and in the sheer amount of jumps he could do from the board in preparation for the World Aquatics Championships.

His injury meant that since Edinburgh in April, he wasn't able to compete at all. He returned to diving only in July which will make his performance a bit shaky, we can expect. He was forced to miss all diving events since then including the European Championships in Rostock, Germany, in June.

Considering the high quality of the other divers in contention, it is highly unlikely that Tom Daily will have anything major to say as to the outcome of this diving competition. If he does, after all, then it will be a big surprise, and we wish him just that.
